Rob Parr Exhibition: A Stage of Clay

Date: 19th February – 23rd March 2018
Private Viewing: Friday 16th February

Artist Statement:
“The title for this collection of exhibited work ‘A Stage of Clay’ reflects my ongoing relationship with both the material and the subject matter. As all those that work with ceramics will greatly appreciate, it takes a considerable amount of time and experience to know the material thoroughly, to understand its limitations, the processes that it dictates to the maker, and how to realise the intrinsic qualities clay presents.  As a figurative sculptor, I equate the exhibition of work to sending actors out to tread the boards to entertain and engage the audience in a story or idea.”

- Rob Parr, February 2018

Biography:
Drawing upon the animal kingdom and perhaps the mundane activities of the human condition, Rob finds inspiration for exploring anthropomorphic anecdotes. His sometimes-witty observations are subtle yet poignant, leaving viewers with a familiar narrative reminiscent of situations and circumstances of the everyday.

After initially studying Ceramic design at North Wales School of Art & Design in the 1990’s Rob went on to work in the ceramics industry and then in higher education for the best part of 20 years before returning to education to complete his postgraduate degree at the University of Central Lancashire in 2015.

Rob won the Kecskemét Residency Award 2017, at The International Ceramics Festival in Aberystwyth and was also selected for The Backhouse Bequest, at the Bluecoat Display Centre in Liverpool in 201. Rob’s work can be found in collections nationally and internationally.
