While teaching in London I started making pots at evening class.  A year later I began teaching pottery at secondary level, and have since taken a degree in ceramics.  After leaving full-time work in education I have taught adult classes, in a college, and in a prison. I am the author of Raku and Techniques Using Slips, both published by A&C Black.

I make individual pieces and some domestic ware in reduced stoneware and porcelain using a variety of slips and glazes, firing to cone 10 in a gas kiln; I have also worked extensively in slipware and raku. I want my work to continue to evolve, and to show the marks of the maker’s hand.

John uses Audrey Blackman Porcelain.
